What is Expected of an SAF Tour Guide?

SAF tour guides are content experts on the tours they lead. In addition to leading tours, they spend time researching and organizing critical information to ensure their tours are engaging and up to date. Tour guides typically lead 4 – 12 tours per year based on their availability. SAF relies on tour guides to show up for scheduled tours prepared to lead and serve as positive representatives of SAF and its mission.

Tours take place every Saturday from 10:00am – 12:00pm. Private tours may happen any day of the week.

Required Experience or Skills:

• Have attended one or more SAF tours
• Interest and passion for architecture and history
• Speaking and presenting to groups
• Willingness to research and learn about related topics
• Open to feedback and able to work within SAF's tour parameters
• Be reliable—our programs depend on volunteers to make them successful!

Steps to becoming a Guide:

• Schedule a 30-minute introductory call with our Program Manager, Gwen Lennox
• Assist on 3 – 4 tours to become familiar with the structure of tours and to experience different tours and guides
• Attend a one-day training to learn more about SAF, architectural basics, and how to effectively prepare for a tour
• Co-lead tours to build comfort and skills, working towards leading tours independently!
