Annual Open House & Bill Strong Awards Building Balance

February 19
6:00 – 8:00 PM
At the Center for Architecture & Design

New as well as seasoned volunteers and community members are invited to join us for SAF’s biggest event to showcase all that SAF does and celebrate our volunteers who help make SAF a great community resource! From 6 – 8pm, meet and reconnect with other SAF volunteers at the Center for Architecture and Design over food, refreshment, and fun activities. We will also award the Annual Bill Strong Award for Volunteer Excellence.

To celebrate the current Center for Architecture and Design exhibit, Balancing Act: Urbanism & Emerging Technologies, we’ll be exploring aspects of balance.

TOUR PROGRAM

SAF conducts high-quality, guided architectural walking tours of downtown Seattle and selected neighborhoods. The tour season begins in April and runs through December. Tour guide training takes place once a year, usually in the spring. If you are looking to get involved in other ways, we can always use help with research and script development. From time to time, we also need docents for special events.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

SAF offers educational programming for kids ages 5-16 with an intention to give students hands-on opportunities to shape their own community as well as learn about architecture and design. Volunteers can assist with weekend workshops for teens and families, school-based programming, or lead tours for youth and families.

MODEL EXHIBIT

SAF’s annual model exhibit is organized around a special theme and hosts physical models, digital models, and/or renderings. The exhibit is free to the public and seeks to increase public understanding and appreciation for the process of design. Volunteers play a role in planning and producing all elements of the exhibit.

SPECIAL EVENTS & SKILLS

SAF is always looking for volunteers with special skills to work on short term projects including photography, data entry and other administrative tasks. We also run a number of special programs each year including multiple fundraising events known collectively as Design Soiree. For these events we are looking for people who are interested in supporting the hosts with planning assistance and day of logistics.

DESIGN IN DEPTH LECTURE SERIES

This program increases public understanding and appreciation of architecture and design through a variety of lectures, panels, forums and one-time presentations designed to stimulate conversation and engage the community. Volunteers are responsible for developing and implementing all presentations. This committee meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month, 6:00-7:30 PM.

VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT

The purpose of this committee is to make every effort to give SAF volunteers the best possible experience for their volunteer service. Committee members are responsible for developing programming to support volunteer recruitment, training and retention. These efforts may include both educational and social networking opportunities open to all SAF volunteers.
