Seeing through Sketching
Join us for a day of urban sketching, where the street is the studio and buildings are the models. The tour is based on the Analytique, an approach to drawing originally developed in the Beaux-Arts Academy of Paris. The Analytique combines a traditional studio drawing techniques with architecturally-based methods of visual analysis. By following a few basic guidelines and focusing your attention on key details, you will quickly learn how to create beautiful, personalized sketches.
This tour includes classroom instruction, guided demonstration and outdoor sketching focused on the historic Cobb Building. Even for people with no drawing experience, the Analytique will give you a new perspective on how to look at, and how to draw, all buildings.
Instructor Jennifer Butler holds a Bachelor of Arts from Standrod University and Masters in Architecture from The Catholic University of America. She is passionate about art, architecture and the role of the hand in the creative process. She firmly believes that everyone can learn to draw, and that through this process, our eyes open up to the larger, richer patterns of life. Analytique includes both classroom and exterior sessions and lasts approximately three hours. It begins at the Rainier Square Atrium Conference Center (adjacent to the SAF Gallery) 1333 5th Avenue. All materials and art supplies are included in the registration price. Advance registration is strongly encouraged. Due to the individual attention provided, day-of registrations are limited to space available. Tour is $30 in advance/$35 day of.
